When Derek transforms into Blue Comet his musculature increases and his hair turns into bright yellow energy.

BIOGRAPHY
Derek is the son of an Anglo father, Darious Maxwell and an Hispanic mother, Salma Alvarez. Derek’s early years were spent among his large extended family in Las Sandias, New Mexico. Often considered an outcast by his brother and cousins, Derek felt completely different because he shared no common interests, particularly sports or girls.

One fateful night at the age of fourteen, Derek’s life suddenly changed when he discovered a comet fragment that had landed in his backyard. Upon touching the fragment, cosmic energy coursed through his body and he received amazing powers.

Once Derek’s parents discovered his abilities, they contacted the World Hero Organization in Golden Bay City, California. W.H.O. encouraged them to enroll Derek within its training program. After an emotional farewell, he moved away from his hometown and the life he knew. Soon after his arrival, he was given his own apartment in W.H.O. Tower. Taking the name “Kid Comet”, he began his instruction in becoming a full-fledged super hero. Feeling that he finally fit in somewhere, he found happiness in his new life.

As part of secret identity training, Derek attended a local high school like a normal teenager. As he matured, he still lacked interest in dating girls but began to develop an attraction for his male classmates instead. Realizing that he might be gay, Derek became scared that he would be labeled an outcast all over again. Refusing to accept the truth about himself, he buried his secret attractions deep down.
Derek visited home less and less as the years passed, concentrating instead on becoming the best hero he could. It wasn’t long before Kid Comet became the sidekick of Captain Cosmos, who kept a wise and watchful eye over the young hero. Thanks to their space-inspired code names, they were dubbed the “Cosmic Crusaders” and together the duo defended Golden Bay City for several successful years.

Upon turning nineteen, Derek updated his name to Blue Comet and began a career as a solo super hero. Three years later he was teamed-up with the fiery female hero, Sunstar and the pair quickly became best friends. When Captain Cosmos retired, he named Blue Comet and Sunstar as his successors and they proudly carried on the mantle of the “Cosmic Crusaders”.
